Welcome to TISSO’s new look!
Teaching Italian in Secondary Schools in Ontario—TISSO—supports the activities of high schools in the Toronto and greater Toronto area where Italian is being taught and actively promoted. The main activity featured is the Concorso di lingua e cultura, organized under the auspices of the Ontario Association for Teachers of Italian (OATI).The purpose of the contest is to strengthen and increase the profile of Italian and to recognize and award student participation and excellence.
This website, hosted by the Faculty of LA&PS at York University and managed by a team of collaborators, offers all the information required for the yearly contest and features results and photos.
The Concorso di lingua e cultura is generously hosted on a rotational basis by three local universities: York University, the University of Toronto, St. George and the University of Toronto, Mississauga, each of which offer excellent programs in Italian Studies. By hosting this high school event, not only do our university partners have an opportunity to showcase their unique Italian Studies programs, each with a different focus and mission, but, more widely, these excellent institutions also have an opportunity to introduce high school students to their campuses and their unique resources.
Join TISSO in encouraging your high school to offer Italian courses and prepare students to participate in our engaging Italian high school contest.
